What is the best security system for OS X (for keeping out those certian organization/companies that snoop on torrents... of Redhat downloads of course).

Is Peer Guardian the best. Does it actually work in OS X? Or is there a better? I was thinking of using transmission as my client.

Transmission is a great client, and can use encrypted peers if your ISP is particularly annoying. However, past that I just don't use anything since i have never really cared enough :)

There is a plugin for Azureus called SafePeer, but i know from personal experience that it doesn't always work. ("Warning" notice from Comcast) Also, i would not advise using Azureus anyway. it's a Java app, so it's bloated and slow. I have to agree with the TheStu here when I say that Transmission is the best torrent app I've ever used, on a Mac or on Windows.

The safest way is just to get a Secure Tunnel account:

https://www.secure-tunnel.com/

It's not free, but it is pretty good. Downloads are around 600kbps and you have the option of a secure VPN or SSH tunnel.

Also another vote for Transmission. uTorrent is also good if you work in a Windows VM.

I simply do not understand the attraction toward uTorrent, I have it on windows and even though I have it set not to upload, it still kills my internet connection everytime and is frankly no better IMO than any other windows client, but that is just me

Hmm... I've never had any problems with uTorrent. My only gripe is that it doesn't have any installer, so when I first started using it I deleted the actual app instead of moving it into the directory that it could stay in. But it's always done what I've told it to do, and my internet hasn't crapped out on me while using it. :/

What does that do? If I have a VPS linux box could I set one up for free?
