Peer to peer on wireless

I have a hardcore hardware firewall so I don't want to replace it with a crappy 50-100 dollar wireless access point.
All I want to do is add a USB network card to my PC running XP and then get a wireless nic for my laptop just so I can use the laptop on the internet all through the house.
All I hope that I will have to do is enable internet connection sharing on my main box.
CrapUSA has each for 50 bucks each starting today.
100 bucks for the convenience.
Should I do it or be aware of any pitfalls?
TIA

An AP wouldn't be a replacement for a firewall anyway, hardware of software. There simple devices. Wireless hubs. Some are integrated with router combo's however and I guess that's what you were trying to say.

As far as runnin the cards in Ad Hoc, you can run ICS or other internet connection software on a rig and run wireless cards on the LAN side. They're network cards, just use microwaves instead of copper to transfer data. Range could become a factor. The default antennas on most client cards are pretty weak, as well as the power output of the client devices. If you have the range what your suggesting would work.

Yeah, and even if you do get an AP integrated into a router, you can use it as a standalone AP and ignore the routing part.
