Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me out here - would be much appreciated!
Like most people, I want to ensure that my personal media files are backed up. This is around 200Gb of photos and videos - stored on my home PC.
I currently use Mozy as a backup solution - which works flawlessly - backing up selected folders to their cloud storage with no involvement from me. But this is now costing around £16 / month (they have a charging model per Gb) which is expensive (and getting more so). I also think the service is overkill for what I need.
Conversely, my parents also have a large number of pictures stored on their PC, with no back-up solution in place - other than a very occasional backup to my home PC when they remember to bring the laptop round.
So, ideally, what I'm looking for is:-
Many Thanks
Steve

Conversely, my parents also have a large number of pictures stored on their PC, with no back-up solution in place - other than a very occasional backup to my home PC when they remember to bring the laptop round.
So, ideally, what I'm looking for is:-
- Software that will backup my files to an 'off-site' location, essentially over the internet to my parent's laptop.
- At the same time, I'd like the same software to be installed on my parent's laptop, and backup their media files to my home PC
- The software needs to operate in the background, typically with no user involvement, and synchronise selected folders (I'm an IT professional, so can setup and install what's needed initially, but my parents are not overly IT literate (understatement!) so this needs to be 'fire and forget')
- Not looking for any further cloud storage - Basically looking for the software to notice that both machines are on-line at the same time, and when this happens to start backing up new and changed files.
- Of course it would be great if the software was free, but I don't mind paying something reasonable for software. What I want to avoid though is a subscription model. As I'll be supplying my own 'cloud' storage (parent's laptop and my own hardware) I hope this can be avoided and the cost would be one-off, if there is one.
- Ideally I would like to 'seed' the remote storage area manually initially - it takes a while to move 200Gb via the internet! So as an initial once off exercise I'd copy the files manually ideally (by taking an external drive or whatever)
Many Thanks
Steve
