Peer review on new system

I have finally gotten enough money together to build myself a decent system. I?m thinking of getting what?s listed below. It has been a long time since I?ve built a new system, so a little peer review of my list would be appreciated. Also, will the power supply listed be enough? Some people say a 300W will do, others say not. What do you guys think?

Case - Antec KS282
Power Supply ? Antec PP303X (300W)
MB - Soyo K7V Dragon Plus
CPU - AMD XP 1600 (Retail)
RAM - Crucial PC2100 256MB DDR-SDRAM (2X - 512MB Total)
Video Card - VisionTek Geforce3 Ti-200
Sound Card - Integrated
DSL PCI Card - Intel PRO/DSL 2100
TV Tuner - AverMedia TVFM98
NIC - Integrated
HD - Maxtor Diamond Max Plus (40GB)
CDRW - Creative Labs 1210E
DVD - Raite RDR-108H

Thanks in advance for the help,
Christian Skyler McClelland

P.S. I already have some of these items, so that explains the CDRW and DVD choices.

not sure how you are on sound but i would go with a high end CL PCI sound card like a sound blaster live, or higher depending on your price range.

It'd be a good idea to spend a bit more on a 350W PSU to alleviate some potential problems.
With the DRAGON+, I heard that sometimes it takes 30 seconds to POST. I'm not sure about that problem though.
If you don't need 512 ram, you may want to get 256 for now, until prices drop (maybe after X-Mas season)
The integrated sound is as good or better than a Live! It's one of the reasons for having a DRAGON+
The Ti200 is definitely nice for it's price
The integrated LAN on the Dragon+ doesn't always work; I don't know about that though.

Anyway, since the DRAGON+ ha some issues like taking 30 seconds to post and disfunctional integrated LAN, I'd look into other boards such as the EPoX 8KHA+ and the upcoming 8KHA2. Your system does look like it will be quite nice 🙂

To the best of my knowledge, the long post time complaints comes from people using the onboard RAID, where those times would be perfectly normal. It could also be that some people have RAID enabled when it shouldn?t be. Do you have information that contradicts the above statements? I would really like to know before I pickup this board.

P.S. Thanks for all of the help 🙂

I would say don't listen to the guy dissing the dragon+, it's a great board. All boards can have problems it just depends if you lucky or not. You can verify that at www.amdmb.com Great site when choosing and troubleshooting a mobo. But if the only feature of the dragon+ you're gonna use is the onboard sound then you might be able to find a cheaper board with just as good sound, not sure about that though. I just ordered a MSI pro2, mainly cause it's cheaper than the soyo and I got a gainward geforce3 so they're both red! 🙂 And unless you have some really awesome speakers and like to listen to music all the time then the onboard sound should be fine. Hope that helps
