Peer-2-Peer Software

Hi,

I would like to ask some questions regarding Peer-2-Peer Software, mostly about security.

Nowadays we live in a web-world filled with spyware, adware, malware, and any other *ware around.

I personally don't use Peer-2-Peer Software, but I have some friends that do ... and what I would like to know, is if it' a "safe" software.

For example, eMule states that their software is free from adware, spyware, but will it be free from any obscure back-door into the users that use it?

I'm tired of getting rid of trash from my computer, and Peer-2-Peer Software has been always a kind of software I just refused to install, given the security threats all around the web.

I'm talking about eMule, because it's the software that came from top of my head, but of course others exist, so feel free to toss them in ... (like Morpheus)

Any opinions count.

If you download something that claims to be a program (like a game crack), it can easily be a trojan horse/virus etc.
So they can be dangerous.
I'm not sure there's a way to exploit without the users knowledge (ie: hacking through a P2P program), but if they download something and don't realise it could be harmful, they may get something nasty (but it's their own fault).

Yes, anyone can download a piece of malicious software, and that's entirely user's fault for any damage it brings.

But what really worries me, it's any exploit of the P2P software itself ...
