As techie-tinkerer, I decided to build a game-capable SLI rig for the first time in almost 7 years. I've got 2x GTX 970.
I've grown more cautious and deliberate in more recent years, attempting to iron out all hardware, driver and system problems before I load up on software. But of course -- I had to install Heaven Benchmark and Kombustor, and I installed GRID and GRID2 as test games to assure everything is working properly.
For the most part, my Event logs are all "blue."
Right now, the system is connected to an HD (and digital-ready) monitor through an older KVM switch which only allows for a VGA analog connection. The Hanns-G 1920x1080 has a port for DVI, for VGA, and for HDMI.
I had Assetto Corsa racing simulator installed on a similar system without SLI, and there were absolutely no problems with it. Both systems have the same motherboard and both use the same KVM. I am going to supplement the KVM switch in a week or so (when parts arrive) with an HDMI switch and DVI-to-HDMI cables.
Now I've got Assetto Corsa installed on the SLI system. When I start the program and enter its main menu, once I select the "Drive" button, the screen goes blank and displays the monitor's "Out of range" message. If I toggle from the game to the options that include going back to the desktop display, it appears the game has two windows open. When I toggle to its "other" window, I can continue with the game, and of course -- it recovers the monitor from "Out of range."
I could try uninstalling and then reinstalling the game, but I wonder if there isn't some setting I should change in NVidia Control Panel. Or I could wonder if I should wait to see what shakes out once I've hooked up the Hanns-G HD monitor with its HDMI port.
As I understand it, the condition that precipitates an "out of range" message on the monitor can damage that monitor. It happens to everyone occasionally, though, and you can usually get the monitor to recover by hitting ESC.
Anyone have an idea what's going on here? I was unable to score any hits in a web search with keywords or questions about Assetto Corsa, SLI, "monitor out of range," etc.
