I'm baffled by this, and I have repeated the results a number of times. I'm running Win2k and I have a LiteOn LTD163 16xDVD and a LiteON LTR-24102B 24xCDRW, it seems as though which ever drive I access first is the ONLY drive I can access at all, that is to say that if I put a disk in my DVD it is recognized. However if I then put a disk in the CDRW it is not recognized and vice versa depending on which drive gets accessed first, anyone else seen this? I also have the drives on the same IDE cable, perhaps I should move on of them over to be slave on my Primary cable, i'll try that now and get back to you.

Oh and I tried flashing my firmware but due to this glitch it's preventing me I think from accomplishing this properly. If anyone has flashed their LiteOns please let me know where to look for the new firmware revision numbers, thanks.

Hello

I'm currently using a 16X Lite-ON DVD and a 16X Lite-On burner. No problems with it so far and am really pleased with both of the drives. The DVD drive is set as Master and the burner Slave. I just set the jumpers and installed it, no problemo.

Could it be a cable problem? Just a thought, I'm no expert ;)

I have the exact same drives, but the setup is different. In Win2k I found that with them both on the same IDE channel the DVDROM had severe problems with extreme CPU usage. I picked up a Promise Ultra 100TX2 and havent had a single problem since, plus I now have the added bonus of burning full speed on the fly for copying cd's.

The new firmware is all on the Liteon website. The only allow the download of the latest, but while the cdrw can be flashed IN win2k, the dvdrom MUST be flashed in pure dos.

OR
Here for the CDRW fimware
AND
Here for the DVD-Rom

I have both of these drives. Originally they were in another case and hooked to the same IDE cable (CDRW - master). It seemed to work fine except Nero
didn't want to do a cd - cd copy. Bought a new case, and put the CDRW as master on the 2nd IDE and the DVD as the slave to the HD on first IDE. It is really
working quite well.

My only problems appear to be with Nero itself. Everyonce in awhile Nero will lock up when trying to start and I have to restart the computer. Clone CD and
EAC work great with both drives.

Anyway, I have heard that it is much better to have the CDRW master and the CD reader on a seperate channel.

Thanks guys, as soon as all of my new IDE cables come in I plan on setting up the CDRW as master on IDE2 with DVD as slave on IDE1, thanks all.

DAMN!

I just ran into the exact same problem!!! I just flashed the DVD drive but that didn't help. I couldn't download the flash for my 16X Lite-On burner though.

I've tried switching everything and also separating the Lite-On drives on separate IDE's. Nothing worked for me. Is there a another way to go around this problem? Or is it a WinXP problem?

Thanks guys!
