I live in the south (ATL) and have never heard nor seen this.

Um Atlanta, or the suburb of it, is not actually part of the south. It is a geographic oddity. If you are from Atlanta, just tell people that you are a yankee and be done with it.

Haha! Hillbillies crack me up! You know you're backwoods when you dump random crap in your Coke to see if it's any good. I love how they'll fry anything too (see also: fried twinkies, candy bars etc).

Ignorant Yankees crack me up with their narrow minded, stereotyping comments. I think it's safe to say that every region of the country (and world for that matter) has certain quirks that others may find unorthodox. Apparently, being a dumbass is one of yours.

Sorry about that. Here's a fried cookie: :cookie:

😛😉

I'm so trying this tonight.

Just remember. Coke, not pepsi, RC Cola, Dr Pepper etc etc.

If you can find it in the glass bottle thats the best, Im telling you.

My father was born and raised in the south (Tennessee) and will drop peanuts into his diet pepsi when he drinks it. Not always, but I have noticed it many times, especially when we are driving long distances.

Southerners are so stupid. And they talk funny.

Go fvck a goat.

Is that another one of those quaint Southern things like talking funny and putting peanuts in Coke? 😛

I had assumed it was a Midwest thing.

Edit: Or something done in Washington, now that I think about it.

It actually originated with RC Cola. I saw that on the Food Network.

Thats was because RC Cola tasted like balls. RC tastes better but it sill blows. Coke is by far the best. Not to mention, I didn't think that RC cola was still available nation wide, whereas I know coke is.

I voted no...why would you do that?

BTW....I'm from the South, but not Alabama.

Boiled Peanuts are good.....especially cajun ones. 😀

Everyone in the South does this. 33% of the time it makes your stomach explode like Mikey from Life Cereal 😛

i've lived in the south my entire life, and i have never done this. i've never known anyone that has, either.

You're in Texas which is not really the true South.

Yes I've done it.

i'm in texas now but i've also lived in louisiana and georgia and still know people from louisiana. so i say again, don't know anyone that has ever done this.

Do the peanuts taste that much better?

It just has to do with combining the saltiness of the peanuts with the sweetness of the Coke. It wasn't really done in my family growing up but I saw it done many times and I did it myself some. But as mentioned, it really only works well with the older, thick glassed Coke bottles. I haven't done it in probably 20 years though but it was certainly prevalent in the south. Crumbled cornbread in a glass of whole (or butter) milk was really common as well. I tried that a few years ago just to see if it was how I remembered it as a kid. I took one swallow and poured the rest down the sink.

It was a pretty common practice around here back in the '60s when I was a kid. I tried it a time or two and it wasn't bad, but nothing special either. Haven't tried it since then.

It was introduced to me by my mother, who said it was a good way to feel full if you didn't have anything to eat. Worked pretty well too.

PSA: For those that don't read through the thread (I already responded to the first gullible poster)

---I am from NC (most people consider this the south). My comment about everyone in the south does this is pure shens. it is sarcasm (I assumed that my somewhat veiled reference to the pop rocks + coke = exploded stomach myth made this obvious. unfortunately...I was wrong 🙁

As Rachael Ray would say, YUMMO!!

I quoted this because it's quite true. I'm drinking/eating this after dinner and it's definitely making me feel VERY full. Save this one for when you're hungry. 🙂
