Skippy peanut butter tastes the best in NYC.
Peter Pan is the best in North Carolina.
Jiff tastes the best in Washington D.C.

Trying each in a different state makes them not the same.

Skippy totally sucks in D.C.

Peter Pan in D.C. tastes like chemicals or too much butter.

I personally loved Skippy in NYC but not sure why the taste is so different in DC.

Jiff peanut butter is better all around in the various states I have tried it.

Similar things is like in Texas everyone prefers Dominos pizza no matter what but on the east coast PAPAJOHNS is the best of all.

Anyone else notice these things?

I suspect the places perhaps where the ingredients were mixed together are different. My other theory is taste buds change along with the altitude and climate weather.

All food tasting was done within a 1 year window.

Agreed. I think it has to do with freshness.

They make Utz potatochips in PA and they are hands down the best, it makes me wonder why anyone would EVER buy Lays for example. Though its probably local.

Even one franchise down the street will have different customer service/quality depending on the employees, how busy they are and how fast they turnover inventory, how well they store their inventory, etc. You never know if your food was really stored properly or not.

These phenomenon are self reinforcing because take utz for example, nobody really buys lays around here and so their inventory is older, and there is an increased chance it was stored poorly etc. They probably just sell here because it works out somehow on some spreadsheet but in reality they probably aren't aware how badly their ass is getting kicked in certain markets.

It's not about where you buy it, it's about where the peanuts come from.

Georgia's primary crop is peanuts, not peaches.

How does it feel[taste] having our nuts in your mouth?

That explains all the salmonella outbreaks.... Ya'll need to wash your nuts.

I've found a similar thing with free ipads. Free ipads provide a varying level of satisfaction depending on what state you're in.

WTF does that mean?

If you are a man/woman who loves food and tries it all then you should remember that most through the 1990's in the D.C. area most cakes made and created in SAFEWAY,GIANT stores also tasted like chemicals as if the cake was a fake cake only made for display.

But I think managment heard the bad news about their cakes because the past 5 years or so Cakes from Giant and Safeway are just dang tasty good!...

Any of you remember bad food dealings like the above example?

I think you could be right about the age of the product and how it sat on the shelf. One shelf getting all the sunlight aging the product.

Maybe this is just a regional brand, but the only peanut butter I buy is Teddie Old Fashion All Natural Peanut Butter. It needs to be stirred up before using. These national brands mentioned don't stand up to it. And never refrigerate your peanut butter. Also if your peanut butter comes in a plastic container, you've already lost out to staleness.

Utz near me means you're poor, cheap or had no other choice. If I ever make it to PA I'll have to try Utz
