PDF to DOCX Size Limit?

I am trying to convert a 618 page, 167 MB pdf file to word. It runs for about 4 or 5 minutes and then locks up and never completes.
The pdf file opens fine in Acrobat.

I am opening the pdf in Acrobat, then selecting Save as Microsoft Word Document.

Is there a size limit, am I doing it wrong or is my laptop under powered?
I tried in on another laptop with Win 7, about the same cpu and 8 GB RAM. It completed but the docx (Word 2010) won't open because it is corrupted.

Acrobat X Pro
Word 2007
Win 7
Dual core 2.8
4 GB RAM

I thought about that as a work around but I've never tried to break down a pdf. I've always converted to Word, edited then saved as a pdf.

I guess I can use the Print to pdf command and only select 100 pages?

Not when saving in a different format. Printing 100 pages at a time and then converting to word is working. But I am posting from my phone now because the laptop can't do both.

Thanks for the input.
