PDA's - need some recommendations

My last PDA was Toshiba e330, circa 2001 which lasted 28 days (wouldn't turn on anymore).

I am looking for a new PDA to help me organize my work projects and reminders. Pencil and paper just won't cut it anymore, and I need a way to schedule stuff on a digital calendar that I could sync with my laptop/PC.

Any ideas? The extra goodies like GPS/Navigation would be neat, but aren't really mandatory. I am looking for usability, durability, and good battery performance.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have preferences as to what kind of operating system you'd like? Stylus vs. no stylus?

I used to have a Palm TX (and before that, a Treo 600). Liked them both very well. The TX had a gorgeous screen too. Both sync'ed well enough with Outlook, although towards the end of their lifetime I ended up doing a migration overhaul and switched to Palm's own organizer utility. I also had some Windows Mobile device in between, but my general feel was that while WM was good and solid, it didn't feel as approachable as Palm OS.

Other options include Blackberry and even the iPhone/iPod Touch. For simple tasks and organization, I think the Touch works relatively well.

I kind of like having a stylus, but I don't have a preference for any type of OS. The smart phones are definitely attractive, but I don't want to pay a monthly fee for cellphone service. You probably don't believe me, but I don't have any use for a cellphone. My company refuses to issue me a Blackberry because I'm not important enough, and they even refuse to issue me a laptop. Is the iPod Touch a solid PDA? I never thought to look at one before.

On the iPod Touch data keyin can be a little more tiring compared to using a stylus or having physical keys, but they're ok. For me I'm getting there. It's a pretty nifty device because the new iPhone 2.0 firmware gives it a lot more capability than before, and having 802.11g on it is a plus for me as the building I work has like 95% wireless coverage so I can use it to check email as well. It also supports push email and IMAP so that's great to have around. Although compared to a Blackberry (which I also have now, but no longer have a data plan associated with it) the email capability still leaves some to be desired of.
