PDA versus laptop

I am thinking about getting a Dell x50v with the Intel arm processor at 624mhz. How does that compare to a Pentium III? Specifically with browsing and simple data entry.

I really would like a large PDA / small tablet, but they are not as small and are quite a bit more expensive (such as the Sony u70 or Compaq TC1100).

What are your thoughts.

Yes laptops and PDA's are two different animals. The ARM 624 Proc does NOT compare to a desktop/laptop PIII chip at all. (IT may come close in something I don't know about but it is still not even close to a PIII at a similar clock.)

Added to that, data entry on a PDA is a real B*tch! Take it from someone who knows. If you get a flodable keyboard, it is somewhat easier, but I'd just go with a laptop. a PIII laptop is cheaper than the PDA and can do much more.

Perhaps you'd mind elaborating a bit more on the tasks you want your device to perform... but from where I sit. Laptop... hands down, end of story.

PDA = 640x480
Laptop = 1024x768 minimum. Tell me which you rather have for browsing (adjust your viewing screen now to see!). Heck, most sites wont even look right without at least 800x600. Therefore, a PDA is no substitute to a true laptop for this kind of task.

Get both - each has a role to play.

That is what I think is going to happen. Toting around a laptop is going to be difficult in my work. I basically need a respository of information that does not need to be accessed immediately (but in a timely fashion).

Need something small like a PDA but with more power like a laptop. Tough choices from google searching.
