PDA sync via bluetooth

I just bought a bluetooth 2.0 with EDR dongle for syncing my PDA to my computer. I can't get it to work for the life of me. I have a HP iPAQ 2795b (624MHz version).

I just have one question as of right now--is the bluetooth communication supposed to be encrypted, or no? There are so many settings in so many different places, and it's getting to be such a pain trying to get this working. But that information would help a lot, so that I can set everything to one setting, and start from there (although I've done every combination I can think of at the moment).

Also, since I am trying to use bluetooth (thus wireless) to sync, should I have the ActiveSync mode set to RNDIS? Or is USB Serial sync mode fine?
