I'm thinking of buying one but I don't have a ton of money to blow 😛

I wanted to get on that sony clie for $99 but unfournately they were all out 🙁

Is that visor w/ 2mb any good?? can u update the memory???

I'm pretty sure that nothing with 2MB Palm-OS wise can be OS updated. I have the IIIXe and it's great! It doesn't have the pizazz of the Vx, but it's 8 megs (yes, you need it!) and OS upgradeable. I think it's possible to get around $150 even though it has been discontinued. Visor Platinum or Deluxe, I believe, is also around the price point you're looking for.
 
The 2mb Visor can be upgraged with more memory with a module but for the price you would be better of with the 8mb Visor Deluxe. I think price wise there is only about $50 difference which is less than the price of memory module and memory card. I use the 8mb Visor Deluxe daily and I can tell you that you will use most of the 8mb by the time you get the programs that you want on it. As far as Palms go you might want to check the prices for developers on there site. If you sign up for the developers program they had some pretty good prices the last time I looked.Palm Alliance Program
 
get the B&W ipaq 3150, I got it 180 shipped and there is a 20 dollar rebate on first buys from ubid. I also own a palm 3xe and this ipaq just slaps the palm around till it's hot pink.

Palm OS is more reliable and simple IMHO.

Stick to a rechargable Palm. If you are just simply looking for a good organizer, 2MB is good enough. Palm V or Vx (a little more dough) should be a good choice. You may also consider higher ends Visors.

Ugh, whatever, PPC is no more complex than the Palm OS. And I haven't seen any reliability problems on either platform. More FUD spread by palmers 😛
 
Psion Revo. I believe they are sold as Dimaond Mako in the USA. That thing rules! No more graffiti or other crap like that, you get a real keyboard with it!

I want to use it for typing/storing notes during class. Do you think it will be able to hold at least 6 pages of notes??

Also, I dropped by officemax yesterday and the guy there told me that the foldup keyboards doesn't work with the handsprings. I swear I have seen someone with a Visor with a foldup keyboard.

As for the Revo... YES! I have used my Revo to take notes during classes, write down important work-related information, write down all kinds of personal info... Hell, I'm writing my final thesis with that thing! And out of that 8Mb, it still has 6.6Mb free! And the 16Mb version (the one I gave the link about) has twice as much space!

Revo is excellent for typing down information. No need to carry external keyboard, no need to struggle with character recognition. The keyboard is awesome! With little practice you can type really fast with it!
 
The fold up keyboards do work with the visors, I don't know why the sales guy told you otherwise.

Unless he was trying to sell you a more expensive palm. Which in that case, it'd make sense that he'd lie to you.

I have a Visor Deluxe, and it's fantastic. It'll hold 6 pages of notes no problem. With the 2mb version, if you start using AvantGo, and trying to take notes into it, you might run our of memory. When cueRadio's start shipping, I'm going to pick one up for mine. The Deluxes are ~$200 now, and if you find a staples coupon for a $200 purchase, it can be even cheaper
 
I found a Compaq Ipaq H3150 for $159 but i'm worried if I can't hook a external keyboard I would go sloww typing with the stylus 🙁

There is a Targus Stowaway keyboard for the iPAQ. I know b/c I have one for my iPAQ H3650
 
Honestly, i have a visor deluxe and the iPAQ just completely blows it away. It is a real computer as opposed to an organizer. You can get a keyboard for the Ipaq H3150, HERE it is $99 from targus, but i imagine that you can find it cheaper elsewhere. Seriously, get the iPAQ!

Yup, that's what I'm saying. In retrospect, my palm 3xe was just an overgrown organizer with horrificly crude character recognition (graffiti AKA nothing remotely close to real writing). Now that I have an ipaq, I feel like I stepped forward into the future like 1 or 2 years. I can't emphasize enough how much the palm feels like a toy when compared to the ipaq!! Ipaq, where have you been all my life! 😀

If you are doing notetaking, the ipaq is infinitely better than any palm. Transcriber allows you to scribble in natural handwriting and it converts it to text on the fly.
 
Wow...ipaq's have really come down. Had I been able to get one for $160 when I bought my Visor, I'd have gone with it...

Why on earth would somebody buy a PDA, and then get a 99$ keyboard, when you can get excellent PDA with built-in keyboard for 99$? I seriously suggest you take a look at Revo/Mako before buying a PDA! You said that you plan to use the PDA to take notes. Well, thanks to the built-in keyboard Revo/Mako is unbeatable when it comes to taking notes! No need for those clumsy external keyboards that cost extra money!

Whoa! This is the first time I have been called a midget! Well, I am only 193 centimeters tall and I weight about 100Kg...

Sure, maybe you can't touch-type with the Revo-keyboard, but you can type really fast using your index-fingers. And if you are holding it in your hand, then you can type with your thumbs. No problem here.

Is it possible to buy generic storage cards from newegg.com (they usually have the best deals on memory cards)

i.e.- Mr. Flash USA high speed 128MB Compact Flash Memory Card Type I, Would that work with the Ipaq?? or do I need the pricey cards from the manufacturer?

yeah you can use generic CF cards, but you need to buy an adapter/sleeve. It runs about 40 bucks, but if you go to staples, have them order it for you in the store, use the 10 off 40 coupon and get it for 30 😀

Hardly practical for writing notes? Huh? I have been doing that for long time now, and I haven't had any problems! I think it's just plain stupid to carry around external keyboard (no matter how foldable it is).

The guy wants a PDA to take notes in classes. Why would you need a &quot;real computer&quot; to do that? Revo has a word-processor which is more than adequate for that job. Do you need a color-screen to take notes?

So the question is: Why would you need a real computer, if inexpensive PDA is enough? And I fail to see what makes Ipaq a &quot;Real computer&quot; and Revo just a PDA. Revo has a real multitasking 32-bit OS.
