PDA For Book Reading?

I have been waiting years for the ability to use a handheld device for reading books. Theoretically I could load a .pdf or .doc file onto a PDA and read a book anywhere I wanted to (car, bed, bath, couch, etc.).

So, do any PDA's handle normal PC document type files, and can a PDA can display such text in a readable format?

for comfortable reading you want a PDA with VGA res (480x640) and a fairly large screen, as far as I know some sony palm PDA's have this and some zarus linux PDA's the other PDA's have lesser resolutions (320x480, 320x320, 240x320, 160x160) (sony palm, palm, PPC and palm respectively) and that really limits the available screen estate for yer text.

but it's not as comfy as reading a book, and probably never will be.
