What's the best one to get if you already have service (so u can't get the rebates), but im sick of carrying both my PDA (palm Vx) & cellphone around everywhere.

I've been looking into the Handspring Treo 180, but I can't quite tell how big it actually is. I can get it off egay for around $100, is there anything better/smaller around that price range? Anyone have a picture showing the difference in size compared to something?

those pix are nice, but i was hoping to hear from actual owners, about the size & useability. it's kinda hard to judge the size based on most of those pictures

Treo sucks ass. Blackberry is great for business, Samsung's PDA phone is pretty nice for someone who wants a PocketPC device. Personally, my T610 has enough PDA features to warrant me getting rid of my e740 PocketPC.

BTW, who is your wireless provider?

What's the difference? Size/memory/features? I'll be honest, i don't use either one THAT much, which is another reason i hate carrying 2 things. Which one's smaller? Most affordable?

oh, & again, i'm on AT&T GSM Plan

I have AND have used the following: These are my observations regarding the type of devices we're moving towards, so depending on how they are used and budget constraints others opinions may vary. Ask specific questions about any of them and I'll respond w/more detail if available.

Sprint Hitachi G1000, Kind of big and bulky, but nice screen size and features for what it is. (Definitely more of a data intended device than phone).

T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Solid build, phone volume is a bit soft. Nice PDA form though. (Using as phone, grease from cheek/ear gets on display until you learn to hold it right).

Handspring Treo 300 Bulky, Plasticy, feels like more of a clumsy toy if comparing it to the PocketPC Phone. (works good as a Palm OS PDA though).

Two PDA/Phones I have on order and look forward to getting in are:

Kycoera 7135 and Treo 600. These two look like perhaps the best form factor PDA/Phone combos yet IMO. There's also a Samsung with a Palm OS which is quite nice, but one of my users already has it so I'm going for the gear we don't have yet.

I'm also keeping my eye out for the Xda II because it looks like an interesting beast.

Overall, we're going for units which are the most like good phones w/the functionality of PDA's. The latter two I've ordered seem to me to be the best moves in that direction thus far. Keep your eyes on what comes out of Europe as far as these devices go. They usually get the goods on these before we do. Ironic seeing as how their wireless technology sux compared to the US (I support 40+ field reps and 1/3 of them frequent Europe & various other countries).

Is the Treo 300 really that bulky? I was considering the 180, are they the same size? Can the 300 be unlocked like the 180? (that's the main thing, whatever i get has to work with AT&T)

Well, "Bulky" is relative. I know a few people who like it a lot. I'm just comparing it to the relatively sleek Pocket PC Phone thus far. The Treo is a bit plasticy, but then it's also a huge amount less expensive than the Pocket PC Phone. It does fit well in hand once you're used to it and the Palm OS is a good one.

Everything I've listed is at least in the mid hundreds so they don't quite fit your intial criteria - typically, an exellent+ phone will run in the $100.00+ range and a excellent+ PDA will be in the $200+ range so a $300.00 plus integrated unit is really the entry fee for a device that will please on both aspects. By my experience, the devices are getting close but they just aren't quite there yet.

The Kycoera 7135 and Treo 600 are looking pretty good though. We'll see.
