PDA battery issue

Posting this on behalf of my dad. He's got a Dell Axim x30 and the battery is dead. New battery is on backorder 🙁 So in the meantime he was able to use the thing so long as it was in the cradle. Now the power button just switches between orange and green. I tried taking the battery out and popping the PDA back into the cradle; the first time I got prompted to make either a Standard or Guest partnership. I cancelled that, and the second time I got prompted on the PDA to hit a button to clear all the memory or hit another to cancel; I chose the latter. I'm a complete and utter PDA noob. Is there anything he can do to get some use out of his device until a new battery arrives?

So my dad's new battery arrived but doesn't seem to be working right. Below is the email he sent me, any suggestions?

I took your advice and drained the Z-Battery from my Dell AXIM 30. I put the battery back in this morning and here's what's up:

- the screen does not light up when the battery is in the PDA
- the light is flashing amber / green / amber / green
- when I try to synch, the computer can't find the PDA (i.e.: can't find the port / COM 3) and thus won't synch up.

Got another email from my dad:

I just plugged it into a USB port I've never used for anything before + the screen lit up, the PDA synched. Battery is charging (now @ 33% power). I'm very adverse to taking it out of the cradle, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a PDA.

Got yet another email from my dad:

I just got in. The PDA was dim + wouldn't light up when I tapped it. I re-set the battery to NOT go dim - period. Then I had to re-synch it. Is this just a poor battery from Z-Battery, do you think?
