Anyone else eatin' them today? My mom comes from a Polish family and we always had packzi on Fat Tuesday. I still have to get mine but I'm sure there will be long lines just about everywhere that sells 'em.

Love those things, a couple of grocery stores near me carry them and I buy them (too often) this time of year. They taste great, but man, those things have to be calorie bombs.

Traditional polish fried food is made with animal lard; tastes way better, but worse for your heart, etc..

Large Polish population around here, so we see them everywhere and talked about all the time.

I LOVE the damn things. Had to stop by a local baker to pick some up (again).

All our grocery stores stock them too, and every one I've ever had has been delicious (unless the filling was disgusting - but I'm talking dough).

I've, sadly, had far too many this year. I started seeing them a few weeks ago, and had to begin eating them at said time. I've basically averaged 1/day or 1 every other day for the past two or three weeks. D:

It's a good thing today is the last day (cannot believe I'm saying this! I want these year round!) they are on sale. I'm sharing them, mind you, but I still have like 8 left of the dozen I bought yesterday! :D

few local bakeries have them and they're pretty tasty every now and then, but not my usual cup of tea. I am not one for sweets.

Lard is actually not as bad as people thought.

By the late 20th century, lard had begun to be considered less healthy than vegetable oils (such as olive and sunflower oil) because of its high saturated fatty acid and cholesterol content. However, despite its reputation, lard has less saturated fat, more unsaturated fat, and less cholesterol than an equal amount of butter by weight.[2] Unlike many margarines and vegetable shortenings, unhydrogenated lard contains no trans fat.

Pancakes are the tradition for our family.

I just finished off a bunch and I am full.

There is a Polish grocery store nearby and they make their own paczkis.

Wow, that's cool. I've never made 'em before.

It's not really terribly hard. But we'd take over the kitchen (me, my dad and my sister) and make a huge mess of it. The entire kitchen table would be covered with flour and dough and other stuff.

We would make some jelly filled ones too. My favorite ones were the ones that we coated with just regular white granulated sugar after they were done cooking. Not powdered sugar - granulated sugar.

Both my mom and dad were from Poland, made it here courtesy of Russia via a round-about world tour in World War II as kids (they ended up in England where they met, got married and my older brother and sister were born). I miss my mom and her cooking. This definitely brings back some memories. Thanks!

Big Y advertises the shit out of them in my area. I've never had one, but I've had baked goods from the local Polish bakery, so good. Puts dunkin doughnuts to shame!

Used to make them with my Baba when I was a kid. Have not seen that side of the family in years though, unfortunately.
