Actually, something like a digital Polaroid would be "good" for most consumers. 😛

Olympus already tried it. It was a digital camera that actually had a little printer hanging off it:Q As you can imagine it bombed horribly😀 My local Best Buy actually had one. I couldn't believe what i was looking at. I got some funny looks when I started cracking up in the middle of the store😉

**Edit: Check it out.

And goggle doesn't help 🙁

Then you should try google.com not goggle.com.:frown::gift::heart:🙁

With a smaller sensor part of the image circle that is cast by the lens essentially gets cropped away, giving the resulting image greater apparent DOF. It's difficult to explain. To demonstrate this effect in an exaggerated way, try taking a picture of something close up. You'll notice that the DOF is very tight. Now stand back and take a photo pf the same thing, but crop the picture so that the subject takes up the same amount of the frame, and then make the image the same size as the first one. Compare the two. The cropped and resized image will seem to have greater DOF.

You explained it perfectly, but that same "cropping" occurs no matter what length you shoot at. If that's the greatest concern for a non SLR sensor... BIG DEAL! I'd be more worried about the loss of brightness than "creative" DOF.

Not impressed. It's still not interchangeable lenses. Wide angle limit is equivalent to 28mm. (In reality probably not that wide.)
Sensor is only 2/3". It seems to me the high end Kodak 11 MP camera body is still the direction things should be going. It has a sensor close to 35mm size and can use 35mm camera lenses without focal length change.

GRRR... Who made this thread so wide? :disgust:

Seems the gap between sombody's ears is pretty damn wide. This unit is dirt cheap for what it does. That's undeniable.

Some guy called Nocturnal :disgust:

Well this isn't going to win top level praise from Pro photographers or the more serious people.
At the end of the day this is still aimed at consumers and not Pro level people. Consumers generally
don't want to fork out for extra lenses. If they are even thinking of this they will go with a DSLR
or standard SLR.

The 2/3" is just that. The Kodak 11mp camera is alot more pricey then this and it doesn't come with
a lense.

As long as it is fast at and gives a good fast shoot to shoot time I will be happy.

I would agree that this is a remarkable camera at this price point PROVIDING that the image quality delivered is what one would expect form an 8 MP camera. I'll wait and see. Can't always go by pixels, as the Canon 1D seems to have a better image than the newest from Kodak even though it has (I believe) 3 MP pix less.

Probably be a while before I trade in my a40 for another digital. My Elan 7e 35mm is making me happy, and the a40 does a pretty good job for internet pics. When the day comes that 11 MP CMOS cameras, like the 1D come in under $1000 then I'll snap one up. Even then, I like slides. I am pretty sure my next camera is a giant step backwards in technology, but a huge leap in quality and flexibility, a 4x5 camera.

I think an LCD is a MAJOR plus where usability is concerned. This puppy will be available at your local Sears for around $800.00 very soon... another MAJOR plus!

Huh? The D100 has an LCD, and the linked article says MSRP is $1200, a street price of $800 seems on the low side.

You think it's going to be that cheap at rollout? I mean, sure, after 12 months, I can see that, but initially I'd find it suprising for the street price to be $800.

looks like a nice camera.

I really hope Nikon tries to release a consume DSLR that falls under 1000USD. I would like to recycle my nikon lenses.

Edit, nevermind, apparently 21 years of reading experience is not enough 🙂

The DSC-V1 was released 3 months ago with an MSRP of $700.00. It now is selling for $550.00
