[PCWORLD] AMD provides a sneak peek at its Radeon HD 7990

AMD took the wraps off a new high-end reference-design videocard at the end of the company’s GDC press briefing Tuesday night: The dual-GPU Radeon 7990.

Details are exceedingly sparse: Matt Skynner, general manager of AMD’s graphics business unit, simply held up the card for the audience to see. “This is the first public showing,” Skynner said. “We’re not saying much about it other than it’s two series-7900 GPUs on a single card, and it’s whisper quiet.”

i guess this is it for 2013. A refreshed GCN lineup with both single and dual cards.

Didn't read the article?

The Radeon HD 7990 will compete with Nvidia’s Titan for fastest video card on the planet when the card ships (unless Nvidia manages to come out with a dual-Titan card). Expect to see cards like this at retail before the end of the first half of the year, because AMD is expected to ship its Radeon HD 8000 series GPUs in the second half.

While it's not anything definite, there's no way you could take away from the article what you said.

Balla could you save the constant anti AMD FUD for the swillhole at AlienBaby Talk?

Just a few posts ago you stated AT forums are run by AMD and now "Crossfire" is false advertising".

Give it up dude,no one listens to your FUD except the other NVDA fawnnees.

I hope this doesn't release until they fix their drivers for CF, almost could be considered false advertising.

Its nowhere as bad as you and all the other nv loyalists make it seem, ive used CF for awhile myself and so do people i build PCs for. Since you already have a cheap 7950, plug in another cheap one and see for yourself. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Think about it, the same crowd always abuse AMD/ATI for bad drivers.. and here you are, enjoying your 7950. Either you are extremely lucky or these naysayers are wrong.

It's extremely bad that AMD's lunatics spreading BS. There is no CF problems but all tech forums full of threads about it. :awe:

Is it about the same as "NV makes shit hardware that always die prematurely??".. because tech forums are full of these complaints as well. Refer to the "baking my card to life" threads. Heck, even Balla's 470s died recently prompting him to buy a 7950! One of NV's most loyal user, buying an AMD replacement.

That cooler looks worthy instead of a lame 1 fan reference model.

I suspect they are waiting until summer so they can release the crossfire driver update at the same time. They've had the chips forever unless it'll actually be the GCN updated chip being they are starting to come out now.

I also seen how AMD's loyal users replace died AMD card to AMD card. Brainwashing in progress.

agreed. i had so many issues with AMD and my SB-E system(s). i went through several motherboards (sabertooth, P9x79x and now an intel branded board) and 7970 cards (rma both cards), and i always had the exact same issues with hardlocks and reboots.

up until then, i was pro-AMD for all my video cards. since the 7970 fiasco, i've had a gtx 690 and now 2x gtx titan cards. i tried to put the 7970 in my wife's 3770k computer and it was having the same damn problems! if i use ANY drive higher than 12.4, i get the lockup problems.

i contacted AMD after all the hardware changes and having exact same problems, and their response was "You must wait for the drivers to mature". i will not own another AMD card until that gets cleared up.

There are CF problems and out of the box SLI just works so much better. That doesn't mean the CF problems can't be eliminated/reduced with some work on RadeonPro profiles.

It's not a simple case of CF = always broke/unfixable.

You may want to address the first sentence in that post, then you'll see why your original slander is completely wrong.

On this forum alone, there's so many "My NV card died" or "Game killed my NV card" etc. Is it representative of a wider problem? Nope, because tech forums are not visited by the vast majority of users.

It makes no sense that it says it will compete with Titan for fastest card. If dual card is allowed, then it should be facing the 690.

The cooling suggests that it's one hot card. Wouldn't people prefer dual 7970s instead of this?

Its abit late to release this dual GPU card though.. why not just wait for the 8000 series?

the release says it's supposed to be quiet. better to have 3 fans running at low than 1 at max speed, no?
