PC's cant see each other unless using Netbeui...need help

I have 2 computers that are in a network sharing a cable modem/files/printer, the pcs only see themselves when tcp ip is the only device. THey only see each other when using netbeui, how do I set to a specific IP for each PC so I dont have to use netbeui for the pcs to see each other, and able to share files/printer/and the cable modem.

P.S the PC's can use the cable modem wihtout netbeui, its only the printer/file sharing that is not working right now..please help

If each computer has its own IP on the cable modem, then you need netbeui. Win98 can't handle multiple IP's per network card, so TCP/IP is being used by the cable network, you need another protocol for you internal network.
