PCs and 360 are not recognizing each other on network

I've got a Linksys WRT546 router and have been having all sorts of problems since switching over from Bellsouth DSL to Comcast.

First - I can't run BitTorrent anymore without my internet connection coming to a crashing halt. This is with port forwarding 6881 to 6999. I have to restart my main PC to get my internet connection going again.

Second - All of the sudden my wife's laptop doesn't see my main PC (WinXP MCE2005). I thought it might just be an issue with the wireless settings but.....

Lastly - I just got an Xbox360 and tried to get the Media Center functions working tonight but my WinMCE machine can't find the 360 on the network even though both the main machine and the 360 are directly plugged into the router.

The router settings haven't changed that much since the switch to Comcast so I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any ideas, thoughts, ridicule?

1. reset the router to factory specs, unplug the cable modem, and reboot all pcs
2. don't plug it in to the internet jsut yet
3. try to get your pcs to ping each other by IP AND DNS.
ping hercomputer and then try ping yo.ur.i.p

4. try to see if you can see them using windows netowrking...sharing/viewing shares etc.
5. plug in the cable modem and wait for it to go active.
6. reboot the router
6.see if you can get on the internet🙂

Nope. Everything is fine until step 4. Both the PCs can ping each other and all can use the internet connection (including the 360) but they just can't see each other for windows networking or sharing files. 🙁

Then the problem is DNS😀

1. find out the computer name of the laptop.
2. try to find the other computer by it's IPD address😀

go to start run, type:


\\IPOFTHELAPTOP

Well, I'm able to do that but it really didn't do anything to solve my problem. I still can't print from the laptop on to the printer hooked up to my main machine and my main machine still can't share with the 360.
