PCP&C 750W Quad Silencer clicks

Attempting to power up after a shut down (10 mins + passing) the system fails to power up and a clicking noise can be heard from the PSU. If I power cycle the PSU it works fine again.

I can't think of much that could be clicking. My assumption is that the fan is dying, seeing how even when it is operational the fan can barely make a strip of paper shake. Anyone familiar with an issue like this?

Sounds like the supply may be failing. The fans in PCPnC supplies tend to be really quiet and will move little air on low speed so its probably not a bad fan. Furthermore a bad fan will not stop the system from POSTing.

I see, so something else failing in the power supply is also causing the fan to click then. Sounds like I should scrounge up a temporary replacement.

That's disappointing to hear. They used to be great, at least with fully dead units. Even fixed a 400W unit for me that was out of warranty, no charge.

The OCZ effect?

I think Meghan is refering to the fact that the PC P&C Silencer 750 isn't made anymore and that no PC P&C units of that wattage have been on the market for nearly a year. Your best bet at an RMA is they will send you one of the new Z series 850W PSUs, or they will actually have the new Silencer Mk II in stock soon, and that those new units won't absolutely suck.

If you get anything less...such as anything in the ModXstream line...then you have been royally screwed.

I guess my failures have been mostly user-error, as I've always received back the same unit, but repaired. Replacement with a lesser unit would suck, of course.
