Hi,
do you know whether it is possible to supply power to PCMCIA USB power jack from other USB port?

My situation: I have ThinkPad T30, it has 2 USB 1.1 ports. I wanted to upgrade to USB 2.0 so I bought two-port ST-LAB PCMCIA USB 2.0 CardBus. The only problem I have is that the PCMCIA's ports can supply only 300mA which is not enough for my USB flash drive. But this drive works when I plug it into one of the USB 1.1 ports directly on my laptop. PCMCIA has a power jack on it which can be used to supply additional power to its USB ports. According to specification I should plug in 5V/1A to get 500mA on every USB port which should be the same as regular USB ports have. I was wondering whether I could supply this power from my USB 1.1 port? I know I would get only 500mA to PCMCIA so maybe it won't work anyway, but I would try it, because it would be much better than to use external power supply. But I don't know if it is safe to take power from USB port on notebook and plug it into PCMCIA card which is connected to this notebook...

Other question is the cabel I should use. I think this kind of cable is used with same external hard drive boxes for 2.5" drives, like Akasa 2.5" box.

Any ideas, opinions?

Thanx for any help,
David
