Does anyone remember the PCMCIA cards that were extra memory for a notebook computer? I've seen one or two, but was curious about them.

If I recall I think Kingston made them, and they added memory to a notebook.

Now I was wondering if someone with an older notebook that was already maxed out at 64MB and that is the system's maximum, would they be able to utilize the pcmcia memory expansion card?

Going from 64MB and adding another 16 or 32 MB for a maximum of 92 MB? Wouldn't the system ignore the additional memory if the maximum has already been reached?

All computers have a maximum amount of memory they will recognize and the manufacturers usually do a good job of stating what the maximum amount of memory is. You could try and see. Most the laptops from that time period maxed between 24-40MB. What laptop do you have that already has 64Mb and accepts the memory cards?

PCMCIA wouldnt have the bandwidth or latency to act as RAM. Possibly as a very fast solid state HD but mega $$$.
