PCMCIA firewire card not seen on Gateway m6881 notebook

New Gateway m6881 with Vista home premium. Connected new "Best Connectivity" ieee 1394a two port pcmcia card to the slot. Not seen. Tried it with camcorder hooked up with power. No good. Booted up twice and hot swapped hoping Vista would see it. No good. Tried add new hardware, no good. Went into device manager, and unless I am wrong, I did not see the pcmcia slot listed. Do I need to enable something in the bios? Thanks for looking.
