I'm new to Compact Flash. I just got a PCMCIA adapter to connect it to my laptop. So I have the CF card, put it in the adapter, slide it in the PCMCIA slot on the laptop. It is detected, it says it's working properly... now what? How do I get to my pictures? Do I need a program or something? Neither the card nor the adapter came with any software. Please help me out. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I realized that the card was having a conflict with my ethernet card, not enough interrupts available. So I can either deal with only being able to use one at a time, or I'll have to reconfigure my interrupts. Oh well, beats serial connection.

The reason I directed you to the sandisk web site is because I just bought a sandisk card adapter this afternoon and had the same problem you did.

My results were different, tho.

I had a Kodak 32 meg cf card in the adapter. The computer saw the adapter just fine, but no drive letter. After screwing around with the sandisk fixes (which didn't work!) I decided to try my apacer 16 meg card. It worked instantly!

So, I guess I'll be in the market for a sandisk cf card.

Hmm... the sandisk card adapter should be able to work with any card...

I have used it with Sandisk, SimpleTech, THL (generic brand) and Kodak CF cards and they all work fine...

Have you tried formatting the card through the adapter?

I can't... I can't get a drive letter with it.

The strange part of this is that both cards have been only been used in my kodak camera.

If you have a digicam that puts pictures on the CF, then all you need is any graphics program that shows JPG files. Take the pictures, and slip the CF into the adapter (hot plug it) and when it chimes, you can access the JPG files with any file manager - - - Explorer works just fine. Whatever you have to view will then work just by clicking on the image files. You can set it for Thumbnail view and visually select as well.
