Is there any card or some way to get a "firewire" port onto a laptop (without buying a new one altogether or swapping out mobile mobos)???

There's gotta be a pcmcia card with a IEEE1394 port on it, right?

Yes, there are pcmcia cards w/ firewire. Here.

There are many more too, just find the one you want.

I'm partial to OrangeMicro . . . their stuff is top drawer quality wise.

When you are at orangelink.com, check their USB2.0/Firewire combo cardbus card.
USB2.0, by the specs, is slightly faster than firewire.

I was looking at that usb2.0... there arn't very many devices that support the speeds though... are there (maybe I'm wrong, I don't know too much about that.)
