PCMCIA card = frozen system

My friend has a Dell Inspiron 4150 running XP Home. Whenever she tries to insert a Linksys Wireless G PCMCIA card, the OS immediately freezes. If we try to boot with the card inserted, Windows freezes at the loading screen. If we reboot enough times it occasionally works, but it doesn't seem to work at all anymore. I have also been told that the same thing happens when trying to plug in a USB peripheral (I think a mouse).

Any suggestions? I suggested reinstalling XP, but that hasn't been done yet. I checked out IRQs, but there doesn't seem to be any conflicts.

Cheers in advance.
