"In the nVidia Ti 500 chip, the basic architecture is identical to that of the previous GeForce3 GPU. But the new chip is fabricated with a 0.15-micron process."

So is the original GeForce 3 dummy!!!

"ATI's 64MB memory system, though rated at only 300 MHz, claims to achieve 12-GBps performance by relying on another memory optimizer: Hyper Z II"

They state the TI500 memory as 500mhz and the Radeon 8500 as 300mhz. Do they honestly believe that ATI is using 150mhz ddr memory in their new card!

LOL

Yes, I read that article, and was a bit confused with their terminology and figures. Nonetheless, it's a decent magazine, and I'm getting a free subscription :D

Speaking of mags, anyone know how Maximum PC has been lately? My free subscription ran out and I want to know how they've been. TIA

Dude, PC Magazine, PC World and all those stupid magazines suck. Their editors/reviewers don't know jack about hardware and operating systems. I used to really like ComputerShopper because they had very knowledgeable people working for them, but now the magazine sucks as much as any other one out there.

I would recommend MaximumPC if you want some real stuff.

yes, i find the hardware reviews in those mags atrocious...

they run like sysmark and 3dmark as the defacto and definitive benchmarking tools...

HAR.

the only thing i like checking out in those mags is different cases OEMs use to build their solutions with...i'm a casing freak...computer case, breakout box casing, mouse casing, keyboard casing, teeth casings, casey finney (sp?), casey's restaurant,....

Gimme a fricken break!

I could lecture their(EDIT:MAXIMUMPC) editors on computers, they don't know jack!!

I had a flame fest on the phone with one of those idiot editors, he finally backed down and admitted they new nothing. I then told him about AT forums, if wanted to learn more. Boy, I wish I could track his handle down and flame him:|

I realize that Maximum PC is not perfect, but you morons that are bashing it never give an example of a magazine that's any better so why does you opinion mean anything, anyone can say "man they suck" and not list anything better.

You mean Maximum BS? :D Seriously, those idiots rate the Radeon 8500 as a "10 star product" and "superior to GeForce 3". Now, can you really trust a magazine like that?

I hardly find any good public magazine in the shop nowadays. Most PC mags are just ads by company. They hardly provide any truly good information over products except for the prices.

I find that some non-pc magazines(eg. smart money(previously, not recently, free subscription end a while ago and did not renew) provide some comprehensive and good info on PC products. IMHO...better info are available on the web nowadays.

First off I am not a n00b
Second, what makes you an authority?
Third, if you're gonna have an opinion explain it and then try contributing by making suggestions. l00zEr

Did I say I trusted them? I read the magazine I never said it was my computer bible.

I get the info i'm not sure of from the web, obviously I will get no information from you bashing morons. I don't mind bashing, but at least have an opinion of your own.

Actually I still get PC World.

I think it's the only PC mag that is worth anything as I've always trusted their Top 10 for printers, monitors, etc. Every purchase I've made on their suggestions have worked like a charm and have never been disappointed.

Damn, Pabster, they just dont learn:(

Demonicon,
Magazines are the source of all evil, they are the reason companies give NDAs to tech sites, they are the ones that pollute the minds of millions with false reviews, and half-ass advice.

Don't learn what? What is in any of your posts, or pabster's for that matter, in this thread that I can learn from?

Don't try turning me into a gEEk, I can decide for myself what I like, and your conspiracy theories are fine and dandy, but nothing about your posting makes me think you're an authority on anything.

Turning to other gEEks to back you up doesn't impress me either.

Troll on brother.

I would rather reccmend MAX PC to a PC newbee over any other PC Rag just so they get some hardware knowledge even if the reviews dont draw the same conclusions as the hardware enthusiast reviews. All I ever saw from the other Win PC mags was the same dribble over and over every month on how to set up a basic home network or making Windows more productive for you. 1000 Windows tips over and over" Uh after reading the 1000 tips article I know how to change my wallpaper now" I personally liked Max Linux and the Windows2000 mags but they lived a short life span.
