PCM3003 daugherboard volume

I'm working on a project with a TI 6711DSK board. It's got a daughercard with a PCM3003 codec chip to handle nice 48kHz audio. I'm using it as an effects loop. My problem is that there's about a 30db drop in volume from input to output, and I have no idea how to control the volume output of the codec.
Anyone have any ideas? Is pumping the volume even possible? I'm doing this in C, like it should be done (some sites on the net used LabView. .. ick) .
