PCM Processor Fault

I was sitting at a drive through when the car just shutoff. It started right back up, but the check engine light came on. I went to Advance and had the code read and cleared. It was P0606 PCM Processor Fault. Should I just wait and see if it does it again, or should I take it somewhere. I am leaning toward wait and see, since it seems to being running fine.

You should take it to the dealer. PCM Processor Fault is pretty serious. Is the car still under warranty?

It is under the extended warranty I bought through my lender. Serious as in how? The Advance guy acted like it was not that bad to just clear it and see if it happened again. I know he is not an expert on GM cars though.

You can get a new PCM from PCM4Less with a custom tune for around $200 I think. Not really alot of $$$.

200 is a lot compared to zero if you wait and it fails out of warranty.

I know $200 is not pocket change atleast for me anyway, but when I think of $$$ for a car repair I think over $1000.

I would think it might just be corrosion on the connector, but 2004 is a little young for that.

PO606 is an internal fault.
it might be just a bogus failed integrity check and never come back again....If it does come back, the PCM should be covered under the federal emissions warranty, which is 8 years 80,000 miles.
So if your under by miles take it in to the dealer and have them replace it. Provided the code comes back.....having it erased was not the best choice..

That is what I plan to do. If it comes up again, I will take it in. Why was erasing it bad? Was there more to get than just the code? It has about 46K on it for reference. It did some reading up on an envoy forum and there were some firmwares released that said "New calibration to reduce the potential for setting P0335 and P0606." Pretty sure mine does not have this update. So, I wonder if it threw the error code and the computer restarted thus killing the engine. Thanks for the federal emission warranty part. I didn't know about that. Is it the same in every state and what all does it cover?

Erasing it is not bad, its just that the dealer wont replace the PCM unless it comes back.
I guess if it does not come back, its nothing to worry about anyway.
AFAIK,the federal emissions warranty is the same in all states and covers the PCM and the catalytic converters.
I can check more thoroughly when I'm back at work on Monday
