I just got an email stating the pcliquidator.com lowered the price on the CPU and is giving free freight. This must be due to the competition?

Who really cares? I am going to get a few while I can. I am also going to start selling them on paypal to people in Canada?

Hey, why not make a few bucks in the process?

So do they pay for you to take them?

Only way they're gonna "sell"

it's $49.99 with free shipping.

i dont really see the point when celerons and durons which are much more overclockable are out.
sell your old stuff to some lamer and kick in a few bucks and get a lot more performance and stability.

RoadRuner:

Yes, Durons and Athlons are much better, much more over-clockable (is that a word?) and much faster, BUT there are MANY people out there who simply do not want to rebuild their entire computer, and want to get a little more life out of their old system. For them (myself included) $47 to put a new chip in, and in some cases more than double the speed of the system is an excellent bargain, and far better than shelling out a couple hundred dollars or more for a new motherboard, CPU, and case (for those still using AT motherboards).

what kind of performance increase can I expect going from a K6-2 to a K6-III or III+?

I don't game alot, but do a lot of compiles and things like that.

Thanks

I understand a Duron is a better deal... If I wanted to replace my motherboard & case, but I was just wondering what kind of increase I could expect by just dropping in a processor. If my compile times drop by 50%, that'd be a great reason to get one - for only $50.

And, I wouldn't have to spend time reconfiguring all my software because Win98 needs to detect a new chipset. I've got plenty of other things to do with my time that a mediocre performing PC is still fine, but if I could make it less mediocre, it might be worth it.

Unhuman:

Head over to amdzone.com and check out their k6-x forum. There are plenty of posts comparing the speed advantage of a k6-3+ to its predesesors. Generally, with the k6-3+'s on-die cache, you can expect a significant increase in performance. Moreover, at .18 manufacutering process and 2.0 volts, the k6-3+ overclocks very well, on average (if you're into that). I've ordered two of these processors from pcliquidators and both have performed very well. You should verify that your motherboard will support this processor, however -- not all do. Generally, if the mobo will support a k6-3, it will support the + version, so long as you have a 2.0 v option. The forum at amdzone.com also includes recent a post with a list of compatible motherboards.

All in all, if your motherboard supports it, the k6-3+ is a convenient and efficient upgrade.

If you go from any regular K6-2 to a K6-3+ you will get a minimum of 50% better performance assuming the rest of your system is up to task. At least this is the case with the three systems that I have upgraded.

People who say to go buy a Duron system when you can just spend fifty bucks and more than double your performance are speaking out of their asses. They don't understand.

um, just to remind everyone.

go to tiger direct to get this processor for the same price.

AND MORE IMPORTANTLY: NO AS-IS "gonna rip you off" policy!!!!

K6-3 450 CPU

These guys only charge 8 bucks for second day air to seattle. I would jump on this one WAY before I go to cpuliquidater

I am starting to be very suspicious about these posts, it seems that tiger direct has been selling these for a little while now at these prices, and yet no one wants to talk about it. however, I have seen this thread 4 times for the pcliquidators ....

you guys are sure pumping them with no good reason, if a retailer is offering something with an asis policy, they should be undercutting the next lowest price by 30 percent. This would make the risk more worth while.

It seems that a number of people are having success with this chip, but there have been reports of problems lately. Why take the risk for free shipping?

I ordered my chip from tiger yesterday, I will report back with overclock results...

Trifecta:

Unless you mislinked, it seems that tigerdirect is offering a k6-2 at that price, not a k6-3. The k6-3 is far superior to the k6-2 due to the on die cache. Moreover, pcliquidators offers the k6-3+ Which utilizes a .18 manufacturing process as opposed the .25 process utilized in the k6-3. This allows for cooler running and potentially better overclocking.

I for one am not advocating that anyone buy from pcliquidators, I'm simply recounting my success with the k6-3+s I've ordered from them. I take no position on the "as is" policy; I only note that the reasoning behind the policy is explained on their site and that the cpus I have received from them have all worked.

Thanks 7lords.

If I order another one, I may order from tigerdirect. I agree with trifecta that its worth 8 bucks shipping to get a cpu with a warranty.
