PCLINUX OS?

HI, 99% sure i'm going with MEPIS. This is the final post regarding this. thanks. Before i make the commitmant, has anyone used or is anyone currently using PCLINUX ?. Just that and maybe UBUNTU to consider before getting MEPIS..

PCLinuxOS was one of about ten distros I tried before deciding on Mepis. It is OK, but I liked Kanotix better and generally I feel more confortable with Debian because of apt and synaptic. Ubuntu is beautiful and different because of Gnome, but it is still too much like the old Linux for me (configuring and using the command line a lot), but that should change with newer versions. I just tried Mepis 3.3.2 beta and it rocks!

I am currently using PCLinuxOS. I like it a lot. It is a nice desktop distro. It is RPM based, but uses apt and synaptic for package distribution. Overall, it is a stable OS with many nice features. I run it on an HP ZD7260US Laptop and everything (except for the Media Reader which works in no distro) just worked. The only hitch I had was getting VMWare Worstation and VMWare Remote Console running. If you are only using VMWare workstation the fix is easy, no so much for the remote console.

I have tried MEPIS and Ubuntu and didn't like either of them, I would recommend trying out PCLinuxOS AFTER the others, use it as your last one and I am sure that if you like KDE over GNOME (gnome is available but the default is KDE) then you will really like this distro. 🙂

I am in agreement with Tony. I have Mepis, Ubuntu and PCLinux on my system but have been using mostly PCLinux. Again, I think mainly it's just a matter of personal taste since they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Vector Linux is another distro I seem to favor.
