PCIE x8 splitter

Senior member
I have PCIE X16 slot on MOBO with 8 active lanes. I am currently connecting a PCIE x4 OCZ RevoDrive to it. What I would like to find, if such a thing exists, is a PCIE x8 to 2x PCIE x4 splitter, so that I could connect 2 PCIE x4 drives to my PCIE x8 slot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You need a new motherboard for that most likely--if there was such a splitter (which I highly doubt) it would cost a good chunk of change anyway.

This is my new Mobo... Asus Rampage III Formula. I found the 4x into 4x 1x splitter, but I cant find an 8x into 2x 4x splitter. How much is a good chunk of change? So far I dumped $4K into this system...

But I fear you may be correct, such a thing may not exist...

Where did you find the 4x into 4x1x splitter, OP? That would be very useful for cheap Intel NICs.

remember that some slots may appear to be x8 but at x4

a mechanical x8 with x4 electrical is limited to 25 watts.

x16 is 75 watts.

So be careful that you don't run out of power. the quality ssd on cards use molex power like a video card because 25 watt under heavy load will force the units to throttle back (depends on model/size/etc). Also keep them cool. We had alot of issues with fusion i/o overheating because the cards were at the ass end of the server after the drives after the cpu/ram - the units will throttle themselves in high heat situations as well. Mostly benchmarks but it will make you scratch your nuts ..
