PciE x1 soundcards

already posted this in peripherals like 10 hours ago, and have not received the slightest response yet so I think that might have been the wrong place.

When will we see PciE x1 soundcards? and when will creative release a new line of soundcards (which I'm assuming would also be released in a PciE x1 flavor if not exclusively)?

None, but with the lack of PCI slots in new motherboards a PCIe x1 sound card would be nice.

There are no announced products. For anyone to know, they would either have to work for the company releasing the product or be psychic.

The inclusion of HD-audio on most mainboards makes add-on sound cards a hard sell, just like NIC's

I have onboard HD audio (Realtek ALC-880) but I was under the impression that an x-fi would sound much better.

Last I read, Creative said there was some kind of issue with the PCIe that would prevent it from presently being useful for their most recent sound card (the X-Fi series). The jist of it was that the PCIe bus would cause skips in the music or some such thing. I'm sorry I have no link to post. 🙁

it does apparently.

i really want an X-Fi for the MP3 enhancement and Game audio acceleration.

but it will not happen till they produce a linux driver, and prefeably a PCIe version too

Exactly what I posted in peripherals, but I can't remember the article either 🙁

The problem with onboard audio is not the bit depth or sampling rate, it is the build quality and quality of components. HD audio is to be welcomed as well as the better audio handling in Vista but these aren't the main issue.

Skips and other problems on PCIe would be different from the same problems they have on PCI how? 😀

That's the real reason, they can't even do it properly on PCI, let alone learn how to do PCIe right.

Yea it would, if you have the sound output devices to back it up. However, like I said, its still a hard sell. There are plenty of NIC's that are better than onboard, doesnt mean people will race to buy them.
