PCIe vs. AGP

with new upcoming amd mobo's having PCIe availability, will the 6600gt's, x700's, 6800(PCIe ver.)'s, have a leg up on the AGP x800 and 6800gt or what. Has anyone seen where to get a 6800 PCIe anyways like in this benchmark test by xbit? http://www.xbitlabs.com/articl...splay/cs-source_7.html

Comparing results from AGP>>>>PCI-E for now is not really going to show the true potential of the pci-e 🙂

Just like in the days of the migration from PCI>>>>AGP 🙂

In the end it will most likely be no real option if you want the higher end card you will have no choice but to get PCI-E

But I figure that will be at least a couple cycle's away from now....But I would think that there will be no waiting for the PCI-E cards anymore....Most likely they will be supplied prior to the AGP versions.

Rumor has it that next cycle will be AGP and PCIe in the highend. PCIe will probably become mandatory when either the bandwidth is an issue for AGP, or the majority of people with highend systems have PCIex16 slots, or when the motherboards aren't being made much more for highend systems w/ AGP8x.

You really should wait to get replies to your other posts. Besides, "PCIe vs. AGP, which is the way of the future?" is an idiotic question. Obvioulsy, the answer is PCIe, the real question is, "when do I switch?", which you pretty much already asked in your other post(s). You're new here, and I'm not trying to pick on you, but trust me, you will get better responses to your questions if you respect the forum and it's members.

You could switch as early as this fall/winter as there will be PCI-e solutions for both Intel and AMD systems. AGP will most likely be phased out rather swiftly I think, there's little reason to hold onto it except for the minority of people who have just spent $400+ on an AGP card (of which they should have little need to upgrade for a while so it shouldn't matter)

To answer OP, yeppers, everything will go to PCI-e. It's retarded that boards with AMD chipsets don't have it yet, but that's AMD's fault for being so yucky to the chipset designers.

PCIe is what everything is going to be on.

The only thing you should be worried about is if the card fits into one of the sockets on your mobo. Other than that don't worry about it.

PCIe will be taking over though.
