PCIe SSDs, when and how for the consumer?

Anyone know when m.2 SSDs are releasing? Once released are we able to use them on current motherboards? I'm trying to hold out my next ssd purchase for a PCIe one. So far we've only seen them from Apple, but I'd like to seem them available for purchase for custom builds.
