Pcie registering at x8 instead of x16

In cpuz and gpuz my Pcie slot shows up as being only x8. There is only one Pcie slot in my mobo (p35-ds3r), im using a nice new at 5870. Anyone have any advice? I cant seem to manually set the speed in my bios for some reason, unless im missing the option for it. Im not sure if this is a board issue or a graphics card issue.

try a new bios
try non-o/c settings and see if it's still @ x8.
set pci-e spread spectrum to "Auto" and change / lower nb voltage (my p5k-e would drop to x4 w/ vMCH > 1.40)

Well ive tired resting the bios a few times, using default settings with no luck. Even OCd I dont have my nb voltage past stock, and I have no options for spread spectrum for PCIE or anything else. Ive had so many issues with this board im sure its just another one of the endless quirks.
