6600gt is faster than the 6800xt

The best 'budget' card out right now is the 7600gt-- it costs 175-200. It destroys a 6600 or 6800 in any flavor.

If you're on PCI-express, I'd actually suggest a 7600GT for ~$175 if that's within your budget. It's much more powerful than a 6800XT.

I've been looking at the Geforce7600 GT as you suggested, however, the store says that I'm better off with the 6800 xt because it is a 256mb - 256BIT Card, whereas the 7600GT is 256mb- 128BIT card. apparently that give a big advantage to the 6800, what gives?

7600gs if you can't get 7600gt cuz gs (with a fan slapped on) it 'll easily OC to faster than 6800gt (not sure of ultra)

That store was wrong. Just because a video card has a 256bit interface, doesn't mean it's always going to outclass every card with a 128-bit interface. The 6800XT is about the same performance of a 6600GT. The 7600GT, on the otherhand, has the performance of slightly above a 6800GT IIRC.

Ok I decided to go for the 6800GS, only the store ran out of it a few hours before I got there and wont get any new ones in stock for another 3 weeks. They are suggesting I take the 6800PX claming that it's the same exact card pretty much. is that true, are they almost the same?
Thanks.

6800PX? Never heard of it.

It doesn't sound like they're giving you advice based on real world gameplay, just marketing.

What store? 90% of the time you'll actually get a better quality video card for a better price online, unless it's some place like Microcenter. Online stores consistently beat out B&Ms like Fry's and PC Club with video cards even though they're known for good deals.

Stop listening to the stupid crowd, if you post here and want REAL help then listen to it. The people at stores are more in likely complete and absolute morons. The 7600GT is the best deal out there. No IF's AND's BUT's about it, that is the simple truth.

If you do not think I know what I am talking about well I have owned

x850pro, x850xt, 6600GT, 6800NU, 1800XL, 7600GT and I plan on removing the GT for a 1900XT.

It would - *if* the 6800XT had the memory bandwidth available to take advantage of the 256 bit bus which it doesn't. 6800GT or Ultra is a different story they have memory bandwidth (through DDR3) to take advantage of the 256 bit bus when applying AA + AF. The 7600 will find AF + AA more a little more difficult at higher resolutions because the 128 bit bus starts to choke it, but, it will still way outperform an XT.

I know buddy, that's why I ask my friends and collegues here on this forum and don't rely on stupid salespeople.
SO this is the Final Choice I have to make now is between the 7600 GT - 6800 GS and 6800 GT.
Regardless on price I'd like to know which one of these you'd buy.

Waiting for your input !

stock 6800xt is faster than stock 6600gt because it has a 256bit mem interface...but stock 7600gt is faster than 6800xt because it has 4 more pixel pipelines and a better architecture...

I'd go 7600gt since it is faster than both 6800gs and 6800gt...and the price is good too...

if we're talking stock speeds, the 6800XT has the same memory bandwidth as the 7600GT.

the 6800XT is missing fill rate, not memory bandwidth, when compared to the 7600GT

a) stock 6800XT isn't necessarily better than 6600GT. while it does have more memory bandwidth (22.4 vs 16), the 6600GT does a lot more shader operations, so in shader-bound environments the 6600GT should be faster.

1. It is my understanding that the 6800XT is slightly faster than a 6600GT
2. The 7600GT is faster than the 6800GT and Ultra?

The 7600GT is a great card for the price, id highly reccomend it over a 6800XT, 6800, or 6600GT.

The 7600GT is faster than a 6800Ultra.

http://firingsquad.com/hardware/oblivion_mainstream_performance/page9.asp

But the X1800GTO I recommended is much better, especially in oblivion. Plus, flashing it to an X1800XL would make it even better, and HIS X1800GTOs, the one I linked too, have been known to flash to X1800XLs with much success.

Just know that if you try to flash the X1800GTO, you lose your warranty. I wanted to tell you this just in case you considered getting the X1800GTO and flashing it to an X1800XL.

Even out of the box, the X1800GTO does quite a bit better than a 7600GT when you start turning on AA and AF.

The 7600GT is still a good card if you decide to go for it, just get the EVGA I linked to in an earlier post and you'll be set.

Here's a whole review dedicated to the X1800GTO. It outperforms the 7600GT in most cases.

There seems a lot of confusion here.

Let us assume that we are a year or so back from now

HIGH END
Geforce 6800ULTRA>7600GT(probably,maybe)>6800GT/GS
MAINSTREAM
Geforce 6800>6600GT(mainly looses with aa and af, sometimes it wins as well)>6800XT(again it may depend upon memory, card, oc, game)>6800LE(I think)>6600

7600GT and X1800GTO are competitors and some may loose here while the other may loose the other, please check benchamrks to see which is better
check xbitlabs.com as well, though don't reply wholly on it

The Xbit review shows the 7600GT beating the X1800GTO most of the time...
They're both good cards, so I would just recommend either one of them in the end.

That 7600GT I linked too(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130017) has a MIR you can use to take it's price to $140, so I think it'd be the best choice in the end if you're wanting to save money, but if you want to play oblivion better, then I would go ahead and recommend the X1800GTO.

So now it's a matter of the games you want to play.

Flashing is a crapshoot with that card... I wouldnt reccomend it as the success rate isnt good enough to justify the chance.

X850XT>6800ultra>7600GT
But I would go with a 7600GT for it is newer and yet has all features of 6800ultra and much cheaper while being a little lower performer.

Also, xbit even shows 7900GTX much faster than 1900XT/XTX, see elseware as well
