PCIE 2.0 Question

DesiPower

Lifer
I just upgraded to Galaxy 9500 GT from a http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814102466
My Mobo has PCI Express x16 Port - I am guessing its 1.0 as mobo specs does not say "2.0"
I have 3 concerns -
I was surprised to see that the new card did not have the seperate power port on it. Is this normal? As my older one did have it.
Is this because its a PICE 2.0 card? (No Power Port)
As i am using it on a PICE 1.0 port am i missing out on something... like performance ?

Low power cards do not need the PCI-E connector on them. Even if the card is faster than previous gen cards that did need to have an extra plug. The architecture is not the same, thus the cards aren't comparable based on how much power they draw.

My board has a PCI-E 1.0a port (no 2.0) and I am not limited by that. My 4870 is running fine and I'm not missing any FPS because of the port. Right now, even with a GTX280 the PCI-E 1.0 port is ok.

The 9500GT is a low-mid range card, thus external power is not necessary. The x800 was the top of its class, therefore, external power was needed.

No

On a 9500GT, No.

A 9500GT is so bad by today's speed standards it ain't funny. Your other link doesn't work, what was your old card named?
It's like 10 times slower than a GTX280. If not more...

And don't worry about any performance issues, cause:
1. Even a GTX280 isn't slowed down by PCIE 1.1
2. Your card doesn't have any performance it could have lost

Sorry to be so blunt, but unless you had a Radeon 9800Pro / GeForce 6600GT (those are cards from 4 years ago) the change from a "graphics card with a power plug" to this one wasn't something you can even remotely call an upgrade. Unless perhaps for HD content viewing...

And holy sh!t, 90$ for that 9500GT?! That's insane...

Well not exactly... I bought it for $80 and it came with $50 MIR plus and I am going to ebay x800Pro (Whose Fan is not pwrking properly) so eventually it will cost me ~ $20 and I will get a new card with working fan !
