PCIe 2.0 Mobos ... ETA ?

Im looking to build a new PC in the very near future, but i want a mobo that doesnt just support PCIe 2.0 i want one that actually has PCIe 2.0 slots.
Now i've been looking around on newegg and other places like that for these mobos, the closest thing i found was a PCIe x16/2.0 motherboard.

Anyone have any clues as to when can i expect PCIe 2.0 motherboards to hit the consumer market ?

PCIe 2.0 is totally, and I mean, totally useless. GPUs don't even fully utilize the PCIe x16 bandwidth.

well can one assume that once PCIe 2.0 comes out that just might change,
i mean yea x16 isnt used to its full potential, but perhaps and maybe im being
overly optimistic here but just perhaps companies are either holding back, or
simply dont care about x16 just cause they know PCIe 2.0 is just around the corner!
Also whats the point of XFX, Asus, EVGA etc... to make all those 2.0 cards. I know that even those are probably no where near using all x16 can do well i dunno !

Uh.... X38 is PCI-E 2.0 and they've been out. I would also have to assume X48 will be PCI-E 2.0 as well. I'm not sure about 780i tho.

PCI-E 2.0 will be used to allow for more power to the card instead of external connectors.

X38/X48 and 780/790i all support PCI-E 2.0.

Always helps to be future proof as well.

yes thats my thing here ... everytime i build a pc i want to make sure it lasts me at least 3 years +, if i build a pc today i want to play the latest game in 3 years at a decent fps ya know. Hence why im thinking 2.0 as opposed to x16

X38 is a chipset... basically any. (Comes in DDR2 and DDR3 versions)
X48 is a chipset too but not out yet

You are confusing terms. x16 describes the number of lanes a slot has (16 of them). 2.0 describes the version of the standard that a slot complies with. PCI-Express 2.0 motherboards can/do have x16 slots. PCI-E 2.0 increases the total bandwidth per lane, not the number of lanes per slot.

PCI-E 2.0 is completely and totally backwards compatible with older versions of the standard. The performance impact of using a PCI-E 2.0 card in an older slot is zero.

x38 / x48 ... by who ?

Not worth the money imho. I thought about that going X38 but I got an Abit IP35-Pro for $130. I'll upgrade down the road if I ever need PCI-E 2.0 on my motherboard. Note, I'm using a 8800GT PCI-E 2.0 video card.

They make and market their 2.0 cards because they know people like you see the latest "upgrade" and think it's going to be so much better and feel you have to buy one.
