PCI xfx 6800GT problems

I recently bought a computer package from cyberpowerinc.com which included the following:

NZXT Nemesis Metal Mid-Tower Case 400W
AMD? ATHLON?64 3000+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology
1024 MB (512MBx2) PC3200 400MHz Dual Channel DDR MEMORY (GEIL)
NVIDIA Geforce 6800 GT 256MB 16X PCI EXPRESS VIDEO CARD (XFX)
ASUS A8N-SLI nForce4 SLI Chipset

My main issue is that I keep getting an error message from nVidia Sentinel that tells me the video card is not receiving enough power. When I check the voltages from the bios they appear to be within normal ranges. In addition, I checked to make sure the card was properly inserted and that the power supply was properly connected to the video card.

Unfortunately, the tech support at cyberpowerinc hasn't been able to solve the problem. They are currently sending me a new card and after that we will replace the PSU. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and what they did to solve it.

I don't think the card is lying. If the card was defective, it wouldn't tell you anything and just go blank.

Most likely your PSU is not delivering enough power, I would test swapping out the PSU or remove other devices off your system like DVD drives just to see if the power issue goes away.

it looks like you have a generic PSU, so that could definately be the problem.

edit: although if you bought the complete system, it should work as configured....

Yeah, I thought the same about the card too. But the company wants to send me a new video card first. If that doesn't work, they want me to send the entire system back so they can replace the PSU. I don't really feel like waiting 2 weeks, so I'll probably just go upgrade the PSU myself. What would you recommend for the rig above, including the fact that I will be purchasing another xfx 6800GT within the next two months.

Cheapy PSUs will catch you in the nuts every time. Always be sure to buy a quality power source. They cost a little more, but they're well worth it - afterall, without power, that fancy system won't run at all, and then you're up a certain creek without a paddle.
