PCI-E = PCI-Express
PCI-X = faster PCI socket for servers

And yes, PCI-E is currently no faster than AGP8x in practically any situation. The only reason to have PCI-E is to have two cards in SLI.

Ignore PCI-E unless you spend upwards of $400 on your graphichs cards. Ignore the "future proof" myth. Ignore the negligible desktop benefits of SATAII/NCQ. Ignore the useless (for years) PCI-E 1x slots. Get what you need to do what you need right now.
