I would like to know of any sound cards that will fit the 3.3 volt pci-x slot present in the 1600sc server by Dell. The only one I that I have found that will fit so far is the audigy...would like something cheaper if possible. Any suggestions appreciated....
P.S. Video card suggestions might come in handy as well, Thanks again!

PCI X/Express aint out yet, i dont think.
I think that the system has a 64bit PCI slot, and you got confused.

AFAIK, you have a 64-bit PCI slot. Best used for Ultra320 SCSI RAID controllers... You can probably put a regular 32-bit PCI card in there since it won't use the extended portion of the slot, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the info there.

AFAIK(!!!), a standard 32bit PCI card , will work with a 64bit slot, in 32bit mode. Dont quote me though.

Video card suggestions. We need to know:-
price range
use`s of video card
if the server has a agp slot.

Nope...tried 3 old pci sound card that I have and they don't fit!...there is a slot closer to the back on this slot than normal. The only card that I have that fits is an audigy and I would hate to have to put a 65$ card in a psuedo-server.

We have an IBM server with PCI-X slots in it. The newest version of the xSeries 235.

Most Cheaper PCI sound cards will only work in the standard 32 bit PCI Slots as with a lot of cards, only cheap cards I have found that work in 64-bit slots are 10/100 NIC's because they have a little notch that allows them to fit!

Hang on though, have just looked at a Inno3D 6 Channel CMI8738 Soundcard we have in our stock cupboard and it has the little notch, so the back bit of the connect is seperate from the main bit, i'm pretty sure that would fit!

Actually the notch needs to be in the front ...sorta a backwards pci ...with 2 slots in it. Thanx for the input!
