PCI Video

Hello All!
Rite now a have an 9800pro in my system.
If I add a second video card, say a PCI Geforce2, will they peacefully coexist with each other? Assume I have monitors connected to both cards.
if they will coexist, how will I do it? special instructions?

No clue, but when I was buying a PCI card to compliment my 6800GT, I went with a geforce mx400 to maintain driver simplicity. IMHO, you should probably do the same and get a low end PCI Radeon. There are plenty of them out there, and it'll probably save you headaches.

If you already have an old Geforce2 on hand, try it and see. The worst thing you might have to do is reinstall windows.

hmm... but the reason y i want an nVidia card is because i need it to play an older game with AA enabled...

If I may ask...how is your 9800 unable to handle this, but a Geforce2 would?

Thats a funny question lol
its for a game called "the Longest Journey"... apparently u cant play that game with Anti-Aliasing with ANY ATi card, which is ridiculous. since the game is like 5 yrs old, i think an old geforce 2, voodoo5, or geforce4 MX with AA on should be able to make the game look quite decent.

Now, I'm not speaking from experience here, but I'd bet that you're going to run into a major driver manufacturer slapfight.

Maybe it's time to move to a 6800GT? 😛

(the reason I think that you may run into a problem....w/ my 6800GT and PCI MX4000, the driver control panel does not seem distinct...both the cards are listed in the Nvidia subpanel)

I just realized. The workstation I'm currently on, has a TNT2 running the main screen and a Radeon9000 running the second. LOL

Umm...I guess you're okay then, but the 9000 is not running catylists (it's a workstation multihead card, so it uses proprietary (not ATI) drivers...I don't know how the catylists would react)

I used to run my 9800 with a PCI tnt2, and it worked OK.

EDIT: So, why would you run the main screen with the TNT2 and secondary with the 9000? shouldn't it be the other way around?

Mostly because I don't care. This is a workstation used for 2D work only. The 9000 got added yesteday, it is a surplus 4 head card that we had lying around, so I grabbed it and an LCD from an unused computer nearby.
