PCI video card? For a Shuttle X PC.

I work at a PC shop and we have about 5 of these:

http://sys.us.shuttle.com/ModelsK.aspx

They don't have a AGP or PCI express slot, but they have one PCI slot.
Specs: P4 2.0 GHz Intel, 1 GB of RAM (PC3200)

I was thinking about dropping an entry level video card in it and selling it as an entry level gaming PC.

Few questions.

How much does the PCI hamper the performance of the video card compared to AGP?

Will a video card even fit in this thing? Seems really cramped in there. There is maybe 1.5 inches max past the PCI slot for room untill it starts to hit cables. I took some pictures, have a look.

Any ideas on what card to get?

As for having enough room to fit a card in that case, I'm not sure. You could always try and find a low profile card, or one with a thin heatsink to control the width and height.

PCI will definitely limit your gaming performance, though. But, you do have some PCI options. You can still get Geforce FX5200, FX5700, and 6200 cards in PCI. On the ATI side, you can snag a 9100 or a 9200. There may even be an X300 in PCI, but I don't think there is.

Either way, whichever PCI card you choose is going to have a real hard time trying to run modern games. You can count out games like FEAR and Oblivion. Anything that's HL2 or older should be manageable at low resolutions, though.

Oh the nVidia side the FX5500/5700/6200 are probably as good as it gets for PCI. On the ATi side the Radeon 9250 is probably the best PCI card available. I have a friend who games on his Radeon 9250 PCI (256mb DDR) system (Celeron D 2.93/1GB DDR333) and it can play many slightly older games fine at lower resolutions with the graphical effects such as AA/AF turned off. However, games like FEAR, Oblivion, and maybe even HL2 will be mostly unplayable on these cards.

Thanks for the info and reply guys.

If you had 75 dollars and had to buy the best PCI video card - which would you get? Is there some benchmark comparisions floating around comparing them?

It's much under $75. The only other choice would be either a 5700le or a 9250.

EDIT: also it's PCI, AGP, and PCIe. VGA is a standard for the display not the card slot.

Lol. Sorry. I must of been out of it when i wrote the thread. I didnt even catch it. I know its AGP. :p

Also: If this 6200 is so good - why is it the cheapest one on newegg?
According to newegg reviews - it says it has a real problem playing video files?

By fit you mean physically? It should fit. I'm not really sure about those shuttle cases, so you could just buy one a try it out. If it doesn't fit, well...you can always use a cheap PCI card in a pc shop anyway :)

I'm not sure what you mean by the 6200 being the cheapest. of course most cards are mroe expensive: they're faster, but they're not PCI.

If you mean that other PCI cards are more expensive than the 6200, that may be so, but the 6200 will be basically the fastest for gaming. Also, regarding video playback, the card shouldn't be worse than any other card...video playback is usually more dependent on the cpu.
