PCI transmission noise embedded in output sound on P5N-D

Arghh!!!

I tried an X-FI, the onboard sound and an old Audigy but, even though to a different extent, they all blend the PCI noise (I think) into the output sound. Is there any practical way to remove this noise? I only hear it when there's HDD activity. Some BIOS setting, or something? I'm clueless here.

Look in your BIOS for a "Spread Spectrum Enable" setting and try it.
If it's enabled, disable it and vice-versa.

See if it make a difference.

What do you mean PCI noise? Are you talking about a whinning sound similar to electrical interfearance you hear threw the speakers? If thats the case and you hear it no matter what card you are using then its the speakers themselfs not the cards. That would be a lack of sheilding on the speaker's amp causing that problem.

I've tried three different amplifiers, two headphones and three soundcards (well, two cards and also the on-board one). The noise remains. It's like voice modem transmission only several magnitudes faster. Will try the "spread spectrum stuff".
