I thought I read somewhere of a pci to pci express adapter. (ie. You have a PCI card that you want to put into a PCI-express slot on your motherboard.)

Does such a thing exist?

I'm pretty sure most if not ALL motherboards have PCI slots. Why bother with a PCI-->PCI-E adapter?

Wouldn't it be better to have say something like a PCI SATA card on a PCI-e slot instead so it has it's own dedicated pathway to the CPU, mem...whereas a PCI slot would suffer if there are also other PCI devices on the PCI bus(because only one device could be accessed at once)?

Well I can think of a good reason for such a device. A lot of 939 boards have a real retarded layout with the 2 PCI-E x1 slots up top and the PCI-E x16 slot right next to the PCI slots. Being able to move sound cards etc. above the video card would free up space for a dual slot cooler and give more room for airflow.
