PCI sound card vs. on-board sound

I've built a Dell workstation 340 (single P4) into a video NLE machine. I have Ultra160 SCSI hard drives that use an Adaptec PCI card and also a Matrox RT2500 PCI card. I'm currently just using the audio provided on the motherboard, but would like to add a better PCI audio card if it wouldn't be a substantial hit on the PCI bus during video streaming, e.g., from a SCSI HD to IDE A03 DVD burner. Any thoughts or recommendations? Should I leave well enough alone?

Thanks for the advise -- It sounds (no pun intended) like I'd be fine and maybe better off with an added sound card. I'm leaning towards Audigy.

Any three-speaker suggestions? I don't play games with this PC, so I don't think I need more than three speakers.
